The “Best Value in Motorsports” is proving to be “Best in Class” in motorsports as the 2019 (ND.2) Mazda Global MX-5 Cup (GMX-5 Cup) races past the halfway point in the season. In addition to the high level of competition in Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BF Goodrich Tires, the newest-generation GMX-5 Cup race cars are bringing home wins in the SRO World Challenge TCA class and in the SCCA T3 class. Racers continue make dreams real with Mazda Motorsports and Mazda’s Global MX-5 Cup car.

This year’s Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by BF Goodrichis unique in that there are 2 separate classes: the 2016-2018 ND.1 and the 2019+ ND.2. With that, the ND.2 proves to showcase its improvements with 26 more horsepower, an 800-RPM higher red line, BOSCH Motorsports ECU, upgraded cooling capacities and improved wiring and grounds. Depending on the track, the ND.2 runs between 1-3 seconds per lap faster that the ND.1 generation car. True to form, the Global MX-5 cup series has demonstrated the same level of parity with over 1,000 passes for position and a total margin of victory under 4 seconds after 8 races.

The ND.2 Global MX-5 Cup has become incredibly competitive in SRO’s TC America and SCCA’s T3 classes. Competing against Honda, Mini and Subaru in SRO pro racing, Tyler Maxson has driven his Copeland Motorsports GMX-5 Cup to 2 wins and is currently in 2nd place for the season. Rounds 11 & 12 will take place at Watkins Glen of the 16-round season so keep an eye on this young talent. In SCCA’s T3, the ND.2 GMX-5 Cup is showing up against Mustangs, BMW’s and Nissan’s with wins by Danny Bender and podiums by other Mazda racers at Road America and Mid-Ohio.

The ND.2 Global MX-5 continues the successful path Mazda has paved for racers from a grassroots level to professional racing. The 2019 ND.2 updates have transformed this car into a contender for wins and to make racers’ dreams a reality.
