Long Road Racing Closes

2001-2019: It’s been a great run.

They say that all good things must come to an end. This marks the end of a long, remarkable, and very successful partnership with Mazda Motorsports. The Long Road Racing story began in 2001 with racing preparation and support services at the amateur levels. After a superb run in SSC and Spec Miata, with multiple Club Racing victories, Long Road Racing advanced to professional racing. In 2005, we won the Pro Spec Miata championship, the series that evolved into the current MX-5 Cup. This success lead us to compete in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge with Freedom Autosport. In 2011, we brought home the ST Manufacturer’s Championship for Mazda. We also won 5 straight races at the track then known as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Mazda selected Long Road Racing to develop and become the exclusive builder of the Global MX-5 Cup race cars from the fourth generation (ND) Mazda MX-5. 212 identical race cars were produced in our shop. For anyone who has watched an MX-5 Cup race, you understand just how equal the cars truly are, and how that produced epic racing.
Over the past year we have worked on the Mazda 3 TCR program and look forward to seeing it succeed for customer teams.

The team that was Long Road Racing was very much an extended family within the paddock. Earlier this year, our team lost our spiritual guide when Alana passed. I’m not certain as to my next chapter in life but having two amazing sons in the sport means that I will hopefully still see many of you for years to come.
