Global MX-5 Cup extends its eligibility in Canada
STATESVILLE, NC – February 13, 2019: The Global MX-5 Cup (GMX5 Cup) race car is now eligible to compete in the Production Class in the Super Production Challenge Championship Series (SPC) in Canada. This series adds to the growing list of international organizations who include this factory-supported race car in their class structure. The Best Value in Motorsports, the Global MX-5 Cup race car continues to deliver the opportunity for drivers to race new tracks and compete in new series.
SPC based in Canada, has an ultimate goal to develop a series where the true talent of the drivers will prevail more than the sheer performance of the vehicles. “Adding the Global MX-5 Cup race car is a perfect complement to the philosophy of our series.” says Dominic St-Jean, President of Super Production Challenge. He continues “We are excited to see these race cars in our series.” For 2019, SPC will host a 12-race season throughout Ontario and Quebec. The featured tracks include Calabogie Motorsport Park, Shannonville Motorsport Park, Circuit ICAR and Trois-Riveres.
GMX5 is a perfect match for the SPC because it is a professionally-built, factory supported race car designed as a driver-development vehicle. Further, the homologated race car showcases driver talent since each GMX5 is built exactly the same by Long Road Racing in Statesville, NC. “We take pride in the fact that we deliver a driver-focused race car based on the best-selling sportscar from Mazda.” Says Glenn Long of Long Road Racing. “These GMX5 Cup race cars are well-suited at the SPC tracks because of the GMX5 Cup’s 50/50 weight balance, handling and rear-drive configuration.”
